Celtic Fourfold Knot Mug – Handmade Stoneware

A bold fourfold knot takes center stage on this handmade stoneware mug. Inspired by traditional Celtic interlace, the design uses four interwoven forms arranged around a central point, creating a pattern that changes depending on how you look at it—knotwork, leaves, or even a cross-like form.

The design is intentionally presented as Celtic-inspired knotwork rather than a symbol with a specific assigned meaning, leaving a little room for interpretation.

Each mug is individually thrown, decorated, glazed, and fired by Hughes Pottery. Glaze colors and effects vary from mug to mug, and the glaze naturally settles into the recessed areas of the medallion and breaks across the raised surfaces, bringing out the depth of the design.

These are substantial, functional mugs made to be used—not just admired on a shelf. Because they’re handmade, expect slight variations in shape, size, glaze, and impression from one mug to the next. Those differences are part of the piece.
